KANSAS CITY, MO - The freshman standout of the Bryan College Softball team continued to add to her season accolades as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2022 Softball All-America Teams. Annalise Wood earned a spot on the All-American Second Team, one of just two freshmen to earn a Second Team designation. 60 selections were made by the All-America Committee to comprise a First, Second, and Honorable Mention Team. 19 others joined Wood on the Second Team. The Mt. Juliet native joins Heidi Daniel (2014, First Team) and Lacye Walker (2016, Honorable Mention) as the only players in program history to be crowned All-Americans.
Wood helped lead the Lady Lions to the program's first outright Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular Season Champion with a 24-4 record. The Lady Lions earned the automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round and upset #6 ranked William Carey in a 10 inning thriller after a final score of 1-0. Wood threw 112 pitches in the shutout with 11 K's and just 3 hits allowed.
Wood wraps up her freshman campaign and adds NAIA All-American status to her long list of accolades this season. She earned a spot on the NFCA All-American First Team and was voted the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Freshman of the Year; becoming the first player to sweep all three honors. The Mt. Juliet, TN native was 1st in the AAC with 182.1 innings pitched, 312 strikeouts, .144 batting average against, and a 0.84 earned run average. She is also ranked 2nd on the NAIA with 11.98 strikeouts per game, and her ERA was good for 5th in the nation. She broke the program record on March 29th for strikeouts in a season with 153 in just 87 innings; half the innings of the previous record holder.
