Bryan Softball Splits High-Scoring Doubleheader with Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Bryan College softball team engaged in an offensive battle on the road, splitting their doubleheader against Columbia College. The Lions fell 14-9 in Game 1 but bounced back in a big way with a 17-8 victory in Game 2.

Game 1: Columbia 14, Bryan 9

Despite a strong offensive showing, Bryan was unable to overcome Columbia's big innings, ultimately falling in the series opener.

  • Early Lead: Bryan took a 3-1 lead in the second, with Schaffer driving in two runs and a passed ball allowing Can. Green to score.
  • Columbia's Big Inning: A five-run fourth, highlighted by a three-run homer, gave Columbia an 8-3 advantage.
  • Lions Fight Back: Green homered in the fifth, followed by Presley's two-run blast to cut the deficit to 8-6.
  • Closing Push: Columbia pulled away with five more runs in the bottom of the fifth and held off Bryan's late push to secure the win.

Game 2: Bryan 17, Columbia 8

Bryan's offense came alive in Game 2, exploding for 17 runs on 15 hits to secure a dominant bounce-back victory.

  • A. Presley: 3-for-4, 3 RBIs, double
  • S. Beard: 2-for-4, 2 RBIs
  • B. Malone: 2-for-4, 2 RBIs, triple

Game Breakdown:

  • Back-and-Forth Start: Columbia led 3-1 after the first, but Bryan responded with a five-run second, taking advantage of errors and timely hits from Presley and Green.
  • Mid-Game Surge: The Lions continued to pile on runs, scoring six in the sixth, including a two-run triple from Malone.
  • Closing It Out: Columbia made a late push with four runs in the sixth, but Bryan's offense tacked on insurance runs in the seventh to seal the win.

Bryan will return to AAC action Friday staying in Columbia, to face Columbia International for a double header beginning at 4:00 PM
