BARBOURVILLE, Ky. — The Bryan Lions softball team wrapped up their regular season on a high note Monday, sweeping Union Commonwealth on the road with 5–2 and 7–4 victories to finish 28–12 overall and 21–7 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. The Lions currently sit in third place in the AAC standings heading into postseason play.
In Game 1, Bryan got things rolling early and never trailed. Aubree Presley and Maddie Lee each drove in a run with sacrifice flies, while Breanna Bumgardner launched a solo homer to help pace the offense. Brooklyn Malone added an RBI double, and Addison Bunty led the Lions with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.
Denver Hogrefe was sharp in the circle, going the distance with a complete game five-hitter, allowing just two earned runs with no walks in the win.
Game 2 saw Presley continue her tear, driving in three more runs on two singles, including a clutch hit in the first to get Bryan on the board. Hogrefe and Lee each doubled in the fifth to break things open, and Malone added another RBI double to round out the scoring.
Kayleigh Smith picked up her 13th win of the season, striking out eight and allowing just two earned runs in a complete-game effort.
With the regular season now complete, the Lions will look to carry this momentum into the AAC tournament as they aim to make a postseason run.
