Bryan Baseball Goes Yard Early and Often in Home Run Derby

DAYTON, Tenn. - Bryan College baseball made a statement on Friday, slugging their way through a pair of victories at Senter Field to improve to 6-7 on the season. The Lions bashed home runs in bunches across both games of the doubleheader, outscoring their opponents a combined 28-14 on the day.

Game 1: Bryan 13, Saint Francis (IN) 11
The Lions opened the day in a back-and-forth slugfest against the Saint Francis Cougars, ultimately pulling away for a 13-11 victory in nine innings.

Bryan found themselves in an early hole, falling behind 3-0 after a two-run home run from A. Tuttle and a two-run blast from A. Patton in the second inning for Saint Francis. The Lions answered in the third when Cade Cook launched a two-run home run to make it a 3-2 game.

The Cougars continued to battle, pushing their lead to 9-3 through six innings on a pair of home runs from A. Lichtenst and P. Fulton. But Bryan's lineup refused to fold. In the bottom of the sixth, Cyrus Campos delivered a towering three-run home run to cut the deficit to 9-6, and Caleb Ramsey followed shortly after with a solo shot to make it 9-7.

Denajh Williams added a solo home run in the seventh to pull Bryan within one, but Saint Francis struck back in the eighth with three runs to extend their lead to 12-8. That's when Bryan's most dramatic moment of the afternoon arrived.

Down four runs entering the bottom of the eighth, Logan Stradley opened the rally with a solo home run, and Jayron Morris doubled in a run to make it 12-10. With two runners on base, Will Curcio then launched a stunning three-run home run to put Bryan ahead in the eighth inning 13-12,  and cap off one of the more electric offensive innings of the young season.

Curcio finished with three RBIs on the day. Campos added three RBIs of his own, while Cook chipped in two. Eli Walker earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings.

Bryan's home run total for Game 1: Campos, Ramsey, Cook, D. Williams, Curcio, and Stradley — six home runs in a single game.

Game 2: Bryan 15, Brewton-Parker (GA) 3
If Game 1 was dramatic, Game 2 was a showcase. The Lions kept the bats hot against Brewton-Parker, pummeling the Baron pitching staff for 15 runs and 11 hits in a seven-inning run-rule victory.

Bryan erupted for six runs in the third inning alone, powered by home runs from DenajhWilliams' (two-run), Jayron Morris, Zach Terry, and Cyrus Campos (two-run). By the time the dust settled on that inning, Bryan led 9-0 and the tone was set.

Campos continued to put on a power display, going deep twice in the game and finishing with three RBIs. Morris also hit two home runs and drove in four. Terry added two home runs and two RBI, while Will Curcio and Caleb Ramsey each homered as well.

Brewton-Parker gave their fans something to cheer about in the seventh, when C. Strott slugged a two-run home run and R. Morales answered with a solo blast to make it 10-3. Bryan responded with a five-run bottom half to close the game.

Starting pitcher Ty Johnson picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing just three runs on six hits while striking out three. Logan Sullivan closed it out with a scoreless seventh.

Bryan's home run total for Game 2: Campos (2), Ramsey, Curcio, Williams, Morris (2), Terry (2) — nine home runs.

By the Numbers
Across the two games, Bryan hit 15 home runs in a single day, with multiple Lions contributing on both sides of the doubleheader. Campos was the standout performer, going deep three times on the day and driving in six total runs. Morris added four home runs and five RBIs across the two games combined, while Terry slugged two home runs in Game 2 in back-to-back at-bats.

The Lions now sit at 6-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play — and if today is any indication, the Bryan bats are just getting started. They will continue this series tomorrow, playing St. Francis at 2:00 pm and Brewton Parker at 5:00 pm.
