Two Grand Slams Bolt Lions To Victory To Secure Weekend Sweep

DAYTON, Tenn. — Bryan College baseball turned in one of its most impressive days of the young season on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader at Senter Field to improve to 8-7 in overall. The Lions dismantled Saint Francis (IN) 13-3 in the afternoon opener, then followed with a convincing 14-6 victory over Brewton-Parker (GA) in the nightcap, combining for 28 runs and 28 hits across the two games.

Game 1: Bryan 13, Saint Francis 3
Sophomore catcher Jayron Morris delivered the signature moment of the opener, launching a grand slam in the fifth inning to blow the game open after Saint Francis had threatened to cut into a 7-3 deficit. The blast cleared the bases with Cyrus Campos, Logan Stradley, and Jackson Balliew all aboard, pushing Bryan's lead to 11-3 and effectively ending the contest. Morris finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs, setting the tone for a balanced offensive attack.

The Lions wasted little time seizing control after Saint Francis struck first on an A. Lichtenst solo home run in the top of the first. Bryan answered with Denajh Williams' solo home run in the second, then erupted for six runs in the third inning to take command. A Cade Cook RBI double, a Denajh Williams RBI double, a Zach Terry RBI single, and an Morgan Halliday RBI single headlined the outburst, which chased Saint Francis starter J. Nuber from the game early. Williams and Curcio both added home runs later in the contest, with Will Curcio's solo shot and Balliew's solo blast in the sixth sealing the victory. Williams finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Curcio contributed two hits and one RBI.

On the mound, starter J. Leek earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the year, working four strong innings and striking out seven Saint Francis batters while allowing just two runs. Leek generated consistent weak contact and kept the Cougars off balance throughout his outing. Ryan Ely and Logan Sullivan combined to finish out the game, with Sullivan tossing two scoreless innings to close things out.

Game 2: Bryan 14, Brewton-Parker 6
In the nightcap, Morgan Halliday was the offensive star, going 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs as Bryan rallied from a 5-5 tie in the fourth inning to pull away for good. Halliday's three-run home run in the fourth had already extended the Lions' lead, but his grand slam in the fifth inning — scoring Will Curcio, Caleb Ramsey, and Jackson Balliew — blew the game open at 13-6. Bryan did not look back, adding one final insurance run in the sixth on a Denajh Williams RBI single.

Bryan appeared to cruise after Will Curcio's three-run homer capped a five-run first inning, but Brewton-Parker mounted a surprising comeback. The Barons tied the game at five in the top of the fourth on a combination of home runs by M. Gibson and F. Diaz, an RBI single by Gibson, and an RBI error. Bryan's response was immediate: the Lions posted three runs in the bottom of the fourth and five more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Cyrus Campos also contributed with a solo home run in the fifth. Campos paced the Lions with three hits and four runs scored, while Williams and Curcio each added two hits and three RBIs apiece.

JD McCurry picked up the win on the mound, improving to 2-0. The right-hander went four innings, striking out six while surrendering five earned runs. Despite a rocky middle stretch, McCurry's early dominance kept Bryan within striking distance before the offense took over. Chris Hall closed out the final two innings in impressive fashion, tossing two frames and only giving up one run, with three strikeouts to preserve the victory.

Looking Ahead
With the sweep, Bryan improves to 8-7 overall, showing early signs of being a force in the league standings. The Lions' offense has been particularly dangerous, with multiple players capable of doing damage throughout the lineup on any given day. Bryan will look to carry this momentum forward as conference play continues next weekend at Columbia International.
