Campos Delivers Walk-Off Homer as Bryan College Completes Sweep of Union Commonwealth

DAYTON, TN – Cyrus Campos capped off a dominant three-game series with a dramatic walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving Bryan College a thrilling 13-12 victory over Union Commonwealth on Saturday and completing a weekend sweep at Senter Field.

The series finale was a back-and-forth slugfest that saw the lead change hands multiple times before Campos's heroics ended it. After Union Commonwealth scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 12-11 lead on J. Gutierrez's home run, Bryan responded immediately in the bottom half. Brodie Genter doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Chris Hall before Campos launched his second home run of the game over the fence to send the Lions home winners.
"This was an incredible team effort all weekend," said Head Coach Jordan Day. "We showed a lot of resilience, especially in that third game," he continued.

Everett's Gem in Game One
The series opened Friday with Bryan taking a commanding 7-0 victory behind a stellar complete game performance from pitcher Tanner Everett. The right-hander was dominant throughout, scattering just five hits while striking out six over nine innings. Everett faced only 32 batters and kept Union Commonwealth off the scoreboard entirely, earning his first win of the season.

The Lions provided Everett with all the run support he needed, scoring single runs in the second and seventh innings before breaking the game open with a four-run eighth. Cade Cook opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Brodie Genter added another solo shot in the seventh to make it 2-0, then the floodgates opened in the eighth when Denajh Williams crushed a three-run homer followed by Zach Terry's solo blast to extend the lead to 7-0.

Grand Slams Highlight Game Two
Game two on Friday evening saw Bryan build an early lead and cruise to a 9-4 victory, powered by a pair of grand slams. Will Curcio delivered the knockout blow in the second inning, launching a grand slam to give the Lions a 7-1 advantage. The four-bagger capped a four-run frame that put Bryan firmly in control.

Bryan starter JD McCurry earned the win, pitching five strong innings while allowing just three runs. He struck out seven Union Commonwealth batters and kept the visitors at bay during the crucial early innings.

The Lions jumped on Union Commonwealth starter D. Gorgei early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Curcio's grand slam in the second effectively put the game out of reach, though Union Commonwealth showed fight by scoring single runs in the second, fifth, and seventh innings. M. Charlton and B. Vernon each homered for the visitors, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.

Series Finale Thriller
Saturday's series finale was a marathon affair that lasted nearly three hours and featured 25 runs and 20 hits between the two teams. Union Commonwealth appeared to have control early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, but Bryan answered with five runs in the bottom of the second.

Campos was the offensive catalyst for Bryan throughout the game, going 2-for-3 with three walks and seven RBIs. His first home run of the game was a grand slam in the second inning that brought the Lions back into contention. He also drew key walks and used his speed on the basepaths, stealing a base in a critical situation.

The game featured multiple lead changes and clutch hitting from both sides. Union Commonwealth's Gutierrez had four hits including his game-tying home run in the ninth, while N. Young drove in four runs for the visitors. For Bryan, Zach Terry homered and drove in a run, and Logan Stradley added two RBIs.

Bryan's pitching staff struggled with command throughout the game, issuing 12 walks, but R. Ely came on in the ninth inning and got the final out to earn the win after Campos's heroics.

Series Notes
With the three wins, Bryan improved to 3-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play, suggesting the Lions are finding their groove as conference competition heats up. Union Commonwealth fell to 0-3 despite competitive performances in the final two games.

Campos finished the series with impressive numbers at the plate, including three home runs, nine RBIs, and eight walks. His clutch hitting proved to be the difference in the series.

The sweep marks an important momentum-building stretch for Bryan College as they continue their season. Bryan College will look to build on this successful weekend when they return to action next week.
