DAYTON, Tenn. -Â Despite a 1-0 loss to Reinhardt University on Saturday in Dayton, Tennessee, Bryan College demonstrated resilience and strong defensive play throughout the match.
The Lions showed excellent goalkeeping from
Ava Hooks, who turned in a stellar performance with three crucial saves over the full 90 minutes. Hooks kept Bryan in the contest for most of the match, denying several Reinhardt scoring opportunities and limiting the Eagles to just one goal despite facing 12 total shots.
Bryan's defensive unit held firm for nearly 48 minutes, weathering an early storm that saw Reinhardt take five corner kicks in the first half alone. The Lions' backline, anchored by players like
Kayleigh Ridley and supported by disciplined team defending, frustrated Reinhardt's attack for the majority of the contest.
The match remained scoreless at halftime, testament to Bryan's organized defensive structure. Reinhardt finally broke through in the 48th minute when Kennedy Vinyard found the back of the net, but Bryan continued to battle and never allowed the game to get out of hand.
Bryan showed good depth with multiple substitutions throughout the match, giving valuable playing time to several players including Ruth Fish, who managed the team's lone shot attempt. The Lions maintained their competitive spirit even after falling behind, earning five corner kicks of their own in the second half.
While the result wasn't what Bryan hoped for, the performance showed the team's ability to stay organized against a strong opponent and the foundation of solid defensive play that can serve them well moving forward.
The Lady Lions will be on the road next Wednesday, as they face #16, Truett McConnell University.
