GAINESVILLE, GA – The Bryan College Lady Lions improved to 5-2 on the season with a commanding 74-54 victory over Brenau University on Wednesday night, maintaining their perfect 3-0 conference record.
After a closely contested first quarter that saw five lead changes and ended with Brenau holding an 18-17 edge, Bryan seized control with a dominant second quarter. The Lady Lions outscored the Golden Tigers 23-7 in the period, building a 40-25 halftime advantage..
Alivia Hall provided a major spark off the bench, scoring all 12 of her points in the first half. The reserve guard shot well from the field, hitting 5-of-6 shots including 2-of-3 from three-point range, and added three assists in just 13 minutes of action.
Kadee Ferrell led Bryan with 12 points going 3-for-13 from the field. However, she made her presence felt at the free-throw line, converting 6-of-9 attempts, and controlled the glass with a team-high eight rebounds.
Molly Brown contributed 10 points on efficient 4-of-9 shooting, while
Ashlan Crittenden added eight points along with a game-high six steals in a stellar defensive performance.
The Lady Lions' defense was the story of the night, forcing 35 turnovers and converting them into 32 points. Bryan also dominated in the paint, outscoring Brenau 46-18 in that department, and held a significant 31-8 advantage in bench scoring.
"Proud of our team - grabbing 20 offensive rebounds and forcing 25 steals were huge for us tonight," said head coach Matt Bollant. "Shooting 50% from the free throw line was a great boost. Winning back to back road games by 20 points says a lot about who we are as a team," he continued.
The Lady Lions will be back on the road on Saturday to face Tennessee Wesleyan University as they continue conference play.
