MARIETTA, GA – The Bryan College Lions dropped their tournament opener, falling 78-53 to the University of Mobile Rams on Friday night at the Eagles' Nest.
Mobile (2-0) took control early and never looked back, building an 18-point halftime advantage and cruising to the 25-point victory.
Bryan (0-2) struggled mightily in the opening 20 minutes, shooting just 22.2% from the field and a dismal 10% from three-point range. The Lions found themselves in an early 10-8 hole and could never recover, trailing 36-18 at intermission.
Despite the loss, Bryan showed improvement in the second half, shooting 51.9% from the floor after the break.
Jerry Taylor Jr. led the Lions with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while
Regale Moore added nine points.
Ty Gibbs contributed eight points off the bench.
The Lions held a 32-20 advantage in points in the paint but were outscored significantly from three-point range, making just three compared to Mobile's 11. Bryan was hampered by poor shooting from distance (15.8%) and the free-throw line (55.6%), converting just 10-of-18 from the charity stripe. The Lions committed 15 turnovers, which Mobile converted into 12 points.
Mobile's bench provided a spark with 30 points, while Bryan's reserves contributed 35 points in the losing effort.
The Lions will look to notch its first win of the season as the team continues its early-season schedule. They will take on the host team, Life University tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
