Bryan College Women's Soccer Dominates Bluefield in 4-0 Victory

DAYTON, TN – Bryan College's women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, shutting out Bluefield 4-0 in a dominant home display that saw the Lions control play from start to finish.

The Lions peppered the Bluefield goal with 22 shots compared to just one for the visitors, while also holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Bluefield goalkeeper Autumn Matthews was kept busy throughout the 90 minutes, making eight saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

While Bryan controlled much of the first half, they had to wait until the stroke of halftime to break through. Katie Ryan opened the scoring right at the 45-minute mark with an unassisted goal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The second half saw Bryan explode with three more goals in a 35-minute span. Just 18 seconds after the restart, Ryan Fair doubled the advantage with an assist from Carmen Verdel. Verdel then got on the scoresheet herself at 57:14, finishing an unassisted effort to make it 3-0.

Cammie Ruehling capped the scoring in the 80th minute, also finding the net unassisted to complete the 4-0 rout.

Bryan's attack came from multiple sources. Ruth Fish led all players with six shots, while Ruehling added four and Verdel contributed three. The Lions' depth was evident as they made numerous substitutions throughout the match, keeping fresh legs on the field while maintaining their attacking intensity.

While the offense grabbed the headlines, Bryan's defensive effort was equally impressive. The Lions limited Bluefield to just one shot on goal the entire match, and goalkeeper Katie Finch was largely a spectator in the first half before being substituted out at halftime. Her replacement, Ava Hooks, made one defensive save in the second period.

The Lady Lions will look to build on this momentum as the season continues. This marks the first conference win for the team and they will look for another win on Saturday as they host Montreat for Homecoming weekend.
