DAYTON, TN - The Bryan College Softball team hosted the Midway University Eagles Monday afternoon. The Lions pitchers,
Payton Reasons and
Denver Hogrefe, pitched back to back shutouts 4-0 & 3-0 to take the Monday two game series sweep.
Game one: The Lady Lions started early, with a bottom of the 1st single from
Haley Stahl to bring home
Aubree Presley for the first score of the game.
It was only two innings later when Breanna Bumgardner and Juliana Santillanes started the inning with two singles to have runners on first and second for Aubree Presley. Presley took advantage of the situation by cracking a three run homerun into deep left field to give the Lady Lions a 4-0 lead.
The Lions defense held strong throughout Game 1, capped off by a diving short pop up catch from Payton Reasons in the top of the 5th.
Game two would be a similar story for Bryan.
Juliana Santillanes would slap hit right in the 3rd base gap to reach first. Then steal 2nd base just moments later. Santillanes had a fantastic day at the plate finding her spots using the slap hit, going 4 for 6 on the day.
Breanna Bumgardner would strike a single out to center field to move the runner.
Aubree Presley would continue her scoring ways with a ground out RBI to allow Santillanes to score. Two batters later,
Haley Stahl's single would bring in
Breanna Bumgardner and give Bryan a 2-0 lead.
It would be all defense until the bottom of the 5th, when Aubree Presley would have another ground out RBI to bring in Santillanes to cap off Bryan's scoring for the night.
Denver Hogrefe would finish the game with a three up three down top of the 7th to give the Lady Lions the 3-0 win and a shutout night.
With the win the Lady Lions move to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference.
