Hennessee’s Triple Double Gets Lions Past Royals

Knoxville, TN-  Kaitlynn Hennessee laid down the first triple-double of the season with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assist in Bryan's win over Johson 80-66.  With the win, the Lady Lions move to 19-5 overall and 17-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference. 

The Lady Lions dominated the first half shooting 61% from the field and holding Johnson to below 40% shooting on the defensive end. Bryan would head into half time 50-29. 

Samantha Russell continues to lead the conference in scoring after her 28 point & 8 rebound night. Torie Brooks would be next in line scoring with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Naveah Majors had 9 points on 4-5 shooting. Allissa Mulaski would finish with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Kadee Ferrell finished with 7 points and 9 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st quarter:
  • Nevaeh Majors would score 6 attacking the paint with 3 straight layups. 
  • Samantha Russell would go 4-5 from behind the three point line in the first quarter. 

2nd Quarter:
  • The Lions turned up the defense, Kadee Ferrell & Autumn Davis forced 2 steals a piece in the quarter.  
  • After a big block on the defensive end by Kaitlynn Hennesse, would lead to a Kadee Ferrell lay which started a 9-0 run for the Lions to end the half. 

3rd Quarter:
  • The Royals would chip away at the lead going on a 6-0 run hitting a three with 1:51 left in the 3rd making the score 56-45.
  • The Lion rally after the run with back to back layups from Russell and Hennessee to extend the lead back to 15 (60-45)

4th Quarter:
  • The Royals would force five 4th quarter turnovers to help eventually cut the lead to 8 with 2:16 left in the game (70-62)
  • After Johnson turnover and an Allissa Mulaski layup would get the lead back to 10.
  • Kaitlynn Hennessee would knock down 4 straight free throws to get her to 10 points. It was a press breaking touchdown pass to Mulaski for a layup with 10 seconds left that would give Hennessee her first triple double. 


Looking Forward: The Lady Lions are back on the road to Montreat, NC to take on the Montreat College Cavaliers Saturday 2/10 at 2:00 PM.
