Bryan Takes 2-0 Lead In Weekend Series Against Rio

Dayton, TN - The Bryan College Baseball team made their home debut against Rio Grande on Friday for a doubleheader. Rio struck first in game one of the series with a 2-run homerun to put the Red Storm up by 2 in the top of the first. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the third with a single from both Daniel Dryden and Owen Napieralski which scored Parker Cosby and Dante Morton. The Lions tie the game at 2. A single from Bryson Lofton scores Dryden and moves Napieralski to second and the Lions now lead 3-2. Rio strikes again with another 2-run homer putting them back ahead 4-2. The Lions respond in the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple from Parker Cosby which scored Dante Morton and Danny Marquez. Bass Cooper comes up big with a solo homer to put the Lions up 6-4. Rio would attempt to make a comeback but are only able to cut the lead by one. Bryan takes game one with a score of 6-5. 

Bryan struck first in game two with a single by Bryson Lofton which scored Daniel Dryden. Bass Cooper hit a sac fly to advance the runners. Dryden advanced to second on an error while Owen Napieralski scored the second run of the game. Bryan led at the end of the first inning 2-0. Rio responded in the top of the third inning and in the top of the fourth inning pushing the lead to 7-2. Bryan was able to rally with a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth inning by Napieralski which advanced Cosby to third and scored Kade Cohoon. The Lions would strike again with a homer from Bryson Lofton which scored Dryden and Cosby. With the bases loaded still in the bottom of the fourth the Lions scored one more run which ties up the game 7-7. Bryan would strike again in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single from Lofton advancing Napieralski and scoring Dryden. The Lions now led 8-7. Rio would not back down and homered in the top of the sixth to tie up the game again. Bryan would get to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. A single from Bradley Prince advanced Bass Cooper and scored Daniel Dryden to walk off the game and win 9-8. 

Bryan takes games 1 and 2 of the series.

  • The Lions will be back in action on Saturday February 11th at 12:00 PM to take on Rio in a doubleheader.
