SANTA CLARITA, CA - On November 25, 2023, the Bryan College women's basketball team faced off against #10 ranked Vanguard University. The game, taking place at The MacArthur Center in Santa Clarita, CA, ended in a narrow defeat for Bryan College, with Vanguard emerging victorious with a score of 78-72.
Samantha Russell was a standout performer for Bryan, scoring 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and securing 10 rebounds. Kaitlynn Hennessee also made a significant impact with 20 points, three 3-pointers, and four rebounds. Along with Kadee Ferrell, who played a fantastic game defensively holding Vanguard's premier post player Melissa Akullu to only 8 points. Despite their efforts, Bryan College struggled in the fourth quarter, scoring only 12 points compared to Vanguard's 27, which ultimately sealed their fate.
The game was a tale of two halves, with Bryan College outperforming Vanguard in the first half, leading 43-29 at the break. However, Vanguard's resurgence in the second half, particularly in the final quarter, led to a tough loss for the Lady Lions.. Bryan College's overall shooting was 36.7% from the field and 27% from the three-point range, while Vanguard shot 37.1% and 32.3%, respectively.
Despite the loss, Bryan College showed commendable teamwork and strategic gameplay. This brought Bryan College's record to 4-4 and Vanguard's to 4-1.
