Lady Lions Sweep Truett McConnell In Dominant Doubleheader at Home

DAYTON, Tenn. - Bryan College softball made a statement Friday afternoon in Dayton, Tennessee, sweeping Truett McConnell in a conference doubleheader and handing the Bears their second and third losses of the day. The Lions took the opener convincingly, 8–2, before holding on for a tighter 4–3 victory in the nightcap to close out the twin bill.

Game 1: Bryan 8, Truett McConnell 2
The first game was all Bryan from the second inning on. Kaycee Baldwin set the tone early, stealing second and eventually scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to put the Lions on the board first. Bryan then blew things open in the third inning, with Lily Taylor delivering a two-RBI single that brought home both Ava Saul and Lakyn Lockhart to push the lead to 3–1. Truett McConnell briefly answered in their half of the third and fourth innings, but Bryan's bats kept coming, adding two more runs in the fifth and a three-run sixth to seal the 8–2 final. Pitcher Maddie Lee was outstanding in the circle for Bryan, going the full seven innings and allowing just two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out none — a model of efficient, contact-management pitching.

Game 2: Bryan 4, Truett McConnell 3
Game two was the tougher test. Truett McConnell took an early 1–0 lead in the second inning, but Bryan answered right back with a three-run third that proved decisive. Juliana Santillanes stole second and scored on a wild play, Ava Saul reached on a shortstop error and plated another run, and Lily Taylor lined out to right field for a sacrifice RBI that gave the Lions a 3–1 edge. The Bears chipped away, but Bryan's Saul delivered the dagger in the fifth inning with a solo home run to right — one of the most complete individual performances of the doubleheader.

Saul was everywhere on Friday. In addition to her home run in Game 2, she drove in two total runs and — in a remarkable display of two-way ability — entered the circle in relief of starter KP Smith in the sixth inning and retired all six batters she faced, fanning two. Smith had done solid work through five innings herself, stranding Truett McConnell runners on four walks before handing it off. The Bears scored a final unearned run in the seventh, but Bryan's defense held firm to secure the 4–3 win.

Santillanes and Lockhart were catalysts all day for the Lions' lineup, each producing multiple hits across both games and combining for several key stolen bases that disrupted the Bears' defense. Lily Taylor was quietly one of the most productive bats of the afternoon, finishing with five RBI across the doubleheader on a combination of timely singles and sacrifice opportunities.

With the sweep, Bryan moves to 25–21 overall and 15–9 in conference play. Bryan will host Union Commonwealth in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 pm.
