PULASKI, Tenn. — The Bryan College baseball team fell to Tennessee Southern 16-6 Tuesday afternoon, dropping to 14-16 on the season as the Firehawks pulled away after a tight early battle.
Bryan looked poised for a strong showing early, jumping out to a 3-1 lead through the first two innings. Denajh Williams and Jack Reynolds provided the offensive highlights, with Reynolds connecting on a solo home run to right field in the second and Williams delivering the big blow of the day — a three-run shot to right center in the sixth inning that momentarily trimmed the Tennessee Southern lead to one. Cyrus Campos also contributed with a run-scoring double in the second.
But defensive miscues proved costly throughout the contest. The Lions committed three errors on the day that helped Tennessee Southern extend several rallies. The Firehawks capitalized heavily on those opportunities, scoring multiple unearned runs in a five-run third inning that swung the momentum decisively.
Tennessee Southern's Evan Nelson was the standout performer of the afternoon, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, while Reagan Tomlin added a bases-clearing double in a five-run sixth that pushed the lead to 12-6 and effectively put the game out of reach.
On the mound, Bryan used six pitchers. Tyler Gray provided the Lions' best outing in relief, tossing two clean innings with two strikeouts.
Bryan will look to bounce back as they prepare for a conference series at Spartanburg Methodist this weekend.
