Bryan College Falls to Columbia International 106-91 in AAC Conference Battle

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Bryan College couldn't overcome a second-half surge by Columbia International, falling 106-91 on Saturday afternoon in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

The Lions (9-16, 7-11 AAC) battled competitively through the first half and trailed by just seven points at intermission, but were overwhelmed by a red-hot CIU offense after the break that shot 68.8% from the field in the second period.

Izaiha Bredwood paced Bryan with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. The senior guard kept the Lions close early, pouring in 17 first-half points as Bryan shot an efficient 46.2% before halftime.

Ty Gibbs added 22 points with seven rebounds and four assists, while Cal Drake contributed 17 points off the bench. The trio combined for 64 of Bryan's 91 points, but the Lions received limited production from the rest of the roster, with the bench managing just nine total points.

Bryan hung tough in the opening 20 minutes, entering halftime down 48-41 after connecting on seven three-pointers. However, CIU's offensive firepower proved too much to handle in the second half. The Rams' JJ Vaughan torched Bryan's defense for 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting with seven made threes, while Will Kelly added 25 points and Jeffrey Clark II chipped in 19.

The Lions struggled defensively after intermission, allowing CIU to shoot 58.5% for the game while surrendering 46 points in the paint. Bryan also couldn't capitalize on CIU's 11 turnovers, converting them into just eight points while the Rams scored 13 off Bryan's 10 giveaways.

Despite the loss, Bryan shot a respectable 45.3% from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers, but couldn't find enough stops when it mattered most.
The Lions will look to regroup as they continue AAC play with just one conference game remaining in the regular season.
