Lady Lions Dominate Columbia in 85-44 Victory

DAYTON, Tenn. — The Bryan College Lady Lions rolled to a commanding 85-44 victory over Columbia College (SC) on Friday evening, improving their impressive record to 17-4 overall and 14-1 in conference play.

The Lions seized control early and never looked back, building a 48-point lead that represented their largest advantage of the game. Bryan's balanced offensive attack and stifling defense proved too much for the visiting Koalas, who fell to 10-12 overall and 6-8 in conference action.

Freshman forward Alyssa Petty led all scorers with 20 points on an efficient 7-for-12 shooting performance, adding six rebounds and three steals in just 17 minutes of action. Petty was perfect from the free-throw line, converting all six of her attempts.

Kadee Ferrell contributed a double-double effort with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while also recording two steals and a block. The Lions received solid contributions across the roster, with five players scoring between 4-8 points each.

While Bryan led 18-17 after the first quarter, the Lions exploded for 38 points in the second period while holding Columbia to just four points. The 34-point quarter gave Bryan a commanding 56-21 halftime advantage and effectively put the game out of reach.

"I thought our second quarter was the best quarter we've played all year," said Head Coach Matt Bollant. "We went on a 35-0 run, and that's something special," he continued. "I'm so happy for our seniors and how well they played," he added.

Bryan's defensive intensity during that stretch was remarkable, forcing 14 Columbia turnovers in the second quarter alone while shooting an impressive 56.5% from the field. The Lions also knocked down 3-of-7 three-pointers and made 9-of-11 free throws in the decisive quarter.

Columbia struggled to protect the basketball throughout the contest, committing 33 turnovers compared to just 20 for Bryan. The Lions capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 39 points off turnovers while Columbia managed only six points off Bryan's giveaways.

Bryan outscored Columbia 44-12 in points in the paint, showcasing their ability to attack the basket and finish around the rim. The Lions also held advantages in fast-break points (17-4) and second-chance points (21-13).

Both teams received solid bench production, with Bryan's reserves contributing 35 points and Columbia's bench adding 31 points. However, the overall efficiency and execution favored the home team throughout.

With the victory, Bryan College continues to assert itself as a conference powerhouse with their 14-1 league record. The Lions will look to maintain their momentum as they push toward postseason play.
