Lady Lions' Offense Powers Through For Road Win Over Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alyssa Petty delivered a game-high 23 points to lead Bryan College to a convincing 78-62 victory over Johnson University on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Lions (18-5, 14-1) dominated from start to finish, extending their conference record. Bryan's balanced offensive attack and punishing interior presence proved too much for the Royals (8-12, 7-6) to overcome.

Petty was efficient throughout, shooting 9-of-13 from the field and adding five assists despite committing only three turnovers in 28 minutes of action. Her all-around performance set the tone for a Bryan offense that shot 42.6% from the field and outscored Johnson 46-16 in the paint.

"Good road win; I'm very proud of our team," said Head Coach Matt Bollant. "I thought we played a really good third and fourth quarter," he continued.

Autumn Davis orchestrated the offense with 10 points and a team-high five assists, while Molly Brown chipped in nine points.

The Lady Lions' bench provided a significant spark, outscoring Johnson's reserves 25-9. Kaylynn Walls was particularly effective with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds, including eight on the defensive glass. Alivia Hall added five points in limited action.

Bryan seized control early, taking a 37-31 lead into halftime after a late three-pointer by Brown. The Lady Lions then used a strong third quarter to extend their advantage, outscoring the Royals 17-14 despite committing six fouls in the period.

The fourth quarter saw Bryan pull away for good. After Johnson cut the deficit to 13 points midway through the period, the Lions responded with clutch free throw shooting and timely baskets to maintain control. Bryan converted 7-of-8 free throws in the final quarter and 15-of-20 for the game.

The Royals struggled with their shooting efficiency, connecting on just 32.2% of their field goal attempts (19-of-59). Johnson did excel at the free throw line, making 16-of-17 (94.1%), but couldn't overcome Bryan's advantage in second-chance points (12-8) and points off turnovers (23-15).

Bryan controlled the boards throughout, finishing with a 48-31 rebounding advantage. The Lady Lions grabbed 18 offensive rebounds, leading to crucial second-chance opportunities.

The victory keeps Bryan firmly in control of the conference race as the regular season winds down. The Lady Lions will look to continue their strong play as they head to Reinhardt on Saturday.
