CLEVELAND, Ga. – Bryan College suffered a decisive 5-0 defeat to Truett McConnell University on Tuesday evening at the TMU Soccer Complex, dropping the Lions to 0-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.
The Bears (5-3, 3-1) controlled the match from early on, outshooting Bryan 22-8 and testing Lions goalkeeper
Justus Feit throughout the contest. Feit made six saves over 84 minutes before being replaced by
Santiago Morales, who added one save in relief.
Truett McConnell opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Jovica Lazarevic found the net off an assist from Marcos Martinez. Pablo Farrona extended the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal just before halftime at the 32:08 mark.
The Bears added three more goals in the second half to put the match out of reach. Marco Mandelka converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute, followed by goals from Josh Oliver (78th minute) and Guillermo Peino (79th minute) to complete the scoring. Euan Brindley earned the shutout victory in goal for Truett McConnell, making two saves.Â
Bryan struggled to generate offensive pressure, managing just two shots on goal compared to Truett McConnell's 12. The Lions were also whistled for 10 fouls while earning three corner kicks in the match.
Bryan College will look to bounce back from this setback as they continue with conference play on Saturday at Columbia International.
