Oakland City, IN - #20 IU Kokomo (11-5) swept Bryan College 3-0 with set scores of 25-9, 25-9, and 25-23. The Cougars controlled the first two sets completely before Bryan College mounted a competitive effort in the third set.
Lexi Broyles led IU Kokomo's balanced attack with 7 kills on just 8 attempts for an impressive .875 hitting percentage. The Cougars also received solid contributions from Brynn Berndt (6 kills), Mia Niekamp (8 kills, .467 percentage), and Ryleigh Hamilton (5 kills on 7 attempts). Allison Richman orchestrated the offense with 23 assists while adding 2 kills and 2 service aces.
Bryan College (1-14) struggled offensively throughout the match, hitting -.025 as a team. Leah Lindquist provided the brightest spot for the Lions with 7 kills, while Maya Gipson contributed 8 assists and 1 kill.
In the second match of the day, Oakland City University (7-3) defeated Bryan College 3-1 with set scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-16. Bryan College showed fight by taking the second set but couldn't sustain the momentum.
Eva Hamann led Oakland City's attack with 14 kills, while Elleanor Stark added 12 kills and Tara Rajkovic contributed another 12. Libby Mehringer ran the offense effectively with 43 assists and added 3 kills. The Mighty Oaks hit .236 as a team compared to Bryan's .089.
Shelby Kelly paced Bryan College with 14 kills, followed by Leah Lindquist with 7 kills. Maya Gipson distributed 17 assists for the Lions.
The trimatch highlighted the challenges facing Bryan College volleyball this season, as the Lions dropped to 1-15 overall. The Lady Lions will begin conference play next weekend taking on AAC foes, Bluefield University and University of Pikeville at Summers Gym for their Home Opener.
