Bryan Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets in Tri Match at Cumberland University

LEBANON, Tenn. – Bryan College's volleyball struggles continued in Lebanon, Tennessee, as the Lions dropped consecutive 3-0 matches to Cumberland University and Fisk University, extending their losing streak to six matches.

Cumberland Dominates in Opener

Cumberland University (6-1) controlled the match from start to finish in their 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 victory over Bryan College (0-5) at Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena. The Phoenix hit an impressive .326 as a team while holding Bryan to just a .020 attack percentage.

Cumberland's balanced offensive attack was led by Alei Roper, who recorded nine kills on .500 hitting, while Hazel Konkel added eight kills with a .471 efficiency. Jacey Hubbell orchestrated the offense with 15 assists and contributed four kills of her own.

For Bryan, Sydney Enslen led the Lions with seven kills, hitting .120 on 25 attempts. Shelby Kelly added five kills but was held to .000 hitting percentage due to five attack errors.

The Lions showed brief signs of life in the first set, taking an early 6-6 tie, but Cumberland pulled away with strong serving and aggressive net play. The Phoenix recorded 12 service aces in the match while Bryan managed just two.

Fisk Completes Sweep Against Bryan

The struggles continued for Bryan College as Fisk University captured a 25-21, 25-18, 25-11 victory in the tri match finale. Despite a more competitive showing in the opening sets, the Lions faded in the third set as Fisk pulled away for their first victory of the season.

Shelby Kelly paced Bryan with nine kills but continued to struggle with consistency, hitting just .069 with seven errors. Leah Lindquist added seven kills on .158 hitting, while setter Kaci Wade distributed 21 assists.

Fisk's Shelby Chamblin led all players with six kills on stellar .462 hitting, while Reagan Jones and Delaney Farver each contributed six kills in the balanced attack. The Bulldogs hit .256 as a team compared to Bryan's .011.

Looking Ahead

Bryan College will look to break their six-match losing streak as they continue their preseason play. The Lions have shown flashes of competitiveness but have struggled with attack efficiency and consistency throughout the early season. They are heading down to Cleveand, GA to compete in The Labor Day Bear Invitational at Truett McConnell University this weekend.
