Lady Lions Fall to Dalton State in Lightning-Shortened Match

Dayton, TN- The Bryan College Lady Lions soccer team suffered a devastating 5-0 defeat to Dalton State University on Thursday evening in Dalton, Georgia, as the team struggled to find their footing in what became their second consecutive loss to open the season.

The Lady Lions faced an uphill battle from the opening minutes, falling behind just 47 seconds into the match when Dalton State's Lexi Lyon found the back of the net. The early deficit set the tone for a challenging evening that saw Bryan outshot 38-4 and overwhelmed by Dalton State's relentless offensive pressure.

Despite a heroic effort from goalkeeper Ava Hooks, who recorded 10 saves throughout the match, the Lady Lions couldn't contain Dalton State's attack. Lyon struck again in the second half for her second goal of the evening, while Sophia Calkins, Amy Wearing, and Tania Dominguez also found the scoresheet for the Roadrunners.

Bryan managed only four shots on the night, with Ryan Fair and Katie Ryan recording the team's lone shots on target in the second half. The Lady Lions earned just two corner kicks compared to Dalton State's 12, highlighting the territorial disadvantage they faced throughout the contest.

The match was ultimately called with 1 minute and 47 seconds remaining due to lightning in the area, with Dalton State leading 5-0. The early stoppage provided little relief for a Bryan team that will need to regroup quickly as they search for their first victory of the young season.

The Lady Lions (0-2-0) will look to bounce back from this difficult start as they continue their early-season schedule. They will face Shorter University on Tuesday, August 26th for their first home match of the season.
