BARBOURVILLE, KY – The Bryan College women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to Union Commonwealth on Wednesday evening, as the visitors scored all six goals in the second half to pull away.
The match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes, with Bryan goalkeeper
Katie Finch making four saves to keep Union Commonwealth off the board. The Lions (2-10-1, 1-8-0) managed three shots in the opening period.
Union Commonwealth (2-10-0, 2-6-0) broke through early in the second half when Olivia Bartlett scored unassisted in the 51st minute. Ashleigh Scott-Brown added a second goal five minutes later off an assist from Beth Craig to push the advantage to 2-0.
Bryan responded at the 60:31 mark when Dylan Belk found the back of the net with an assist from
Ryan Fair, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and giving the Lions hope for a comeback.
However, Union Commonwealth answered quickly. Lupita Jimenez scored less than two minutes later with an assist from Nomie Jerinic to restore the two-goal cushion. Charlotte Jensen made it 4-1 in the 71st minute on a feed from Bartlett, before Lily Huckerby and Jimenez added late goals to complete the scoring.
Jimenez led all scorers with two goals, while Jerinic recorded two assists for the visitors. Union Commonwealth held a commanding 19-5 advantage in shots and 13-3 edge in shots on goal. Finch finished with seven saves in goal for Bryan.
The Lions return to action as they continue their conference schedule on Saturday as the take on the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers for Senior Day.
