Lady Lions Earn Home Victory on Senior Day

DAYTON, Tenn. – The Bryan College Lady Lions secured a 2-1 home victory over Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday afternoon, riding a strong first-half performance to their latest win.

The Lions wasted no time establishing control, with freshman Carmen Verdel opening the scoring in the sixth minute off an assist from Cammie Ruehling. The early goal set the tone for Bryan's aggressive approach.

Ruehling would add to the lead just over 12 minutes later, finishing a nice setup from Ruth Fish in the 19th minute to give the Lions a commanding 2-0 advantage heading into halftime. Ruehling led the Lions' attack with seven shots, including five on goal, while Verdel added a goal on her lone shot attempt.

Spartanburg Methodist came out with renewed energy after the break, applying consistent pressure on the Bryan defense. The home team's persistence paid off in the 53rd minute when Camila Moscoso converted an assist from Caitlin Lagos to cut the deficit in half.

Despite the increased pressure and several quality scoring chances from Spartanburg Methodist in the closing stages, goalkeeper Ava Hooks stood tall when needed. Hooks finished with six saves on eight shots on goal, earning the win in net for the full 90 minutes.
