COLUMBIA, S.C. – Ruth Fish and
Cammie Ruehling each found the back of the net in the first half as Bryan College defeated Columbia 2-1 in women's soccer action on Saturday.
The Lions (4-12-1, 3-10-0) built a two-goal advantage before halftime and held off the Koalas (5-8-4, 2-8-3) over the final 45 minutes to secure the road victory.
Bryan struck first in the 17th minute when Ruehling scored unassisted to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Columbia answered just 25 seconds later as Elise Mayfield converted a penalty kick to level the match at 1-1.
The Lions regained the lead for good in the 29th minute when Fish scored her first goal of the match, putting Bryan ahead 2-1 heading into halftime.

Ava Hooks was outstanding between the posts, making nine saves to preserve the victory and improve to 4-12-1 on the season. The Lions' defense withstood constant pressure from Columbia, which held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and fired 10 shots on goal.
Fish paced Bryan's attack with three shots on goal, while Ruehling added a shot on goal to go with her crucial opening tally.
Columbia's Teagan Eisenring made three saves in the losing effort, falling to 5-8-4 on the year.
