Game Recap: Volleyball |

Bryan Volleyball Falls to Johnson University in a Special “Purple Out” Game to Remember Alivia Mynes

The Bryan College volleyball team faced a tough opponent in Johnson University, dropping three straight sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-18) in a game that carried extra significance. The match was played in honor of former teammate Alivia Mynes, with the entire Bryan community participating in a special "Purple Out" night to remember and celebrate her life.

First Set:

The game started with Johnson University establishing dominance early, pulling ahead with a 14-7 lead. Bryan struggled to find an offensive rhythm, with attack errors contributing to a low hitting percentage (.026) in the first set. Despite a few key kills by Bryan's Lillie Van Metre and Bella Beard, Johnson's secured a 25-12 set win for Johnson.

Second Set:

Bryan came out with more energy in the second set, keeping the score tight for much of the set. A few blocks by Canaan Drake and strong defense from libero Elise Brew kept Bryan within striking distance. However, Johnson's offense, led by Thompson and Bell once again, pushed them ahead in the final moments. Bryan's efforts fell short, and Johnson claimed the second set 25-19.

Third Set:

Bryan continued to battle in the third set, with Van Metre leading the team offensively, recording 10 kills for the match. Johnson maintained their lead throughout, despite a solid defensive effort by Bryan, including key digs by Elliott Brock and Brew. Johnson's consistent attacking and well-rounded play proved too much for Bryan, with the Lions falling 25-18 in the final set.

Key Performers:

  • Bryan College: Lillie Van Metre led Bryan with 10 kills, while Bella Beard added 5. Elise Brew had 12 digs and an ace.
  • Johnson University: Ramiyah Thompson posted an impressive 11 kills, and setter Hannah Lukey dished out 26 assists while adding a kill and an ace.

Remembering Alivia Mynes:

The game wasn't just about volleyball. The atmosphere was filled with love, and the crowd, dressed in purple, supported the Lions with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits.
