DAYTON, TN - The Bryan College Softball team took on the Columbia College Koalas on Monday afternoon. The Lions and the Koalas split 1-1 in the two game series.
Payton Reasons pitched a 1 hit shutout in game one to give Bryan a 5-0 win. The Koalas would take game two 3-2.
Game One: As mentioned earlier,
Payton Reasons continued to control the mound as she only gave up 1 hit to the visiting Koalas.
Offensively it was
Breanna Bumgardner's day, as she hit 3-4 and earned her 3 RBIs off a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Lions up 3-0.
Haley Stahl would score twice, the first coming on a
Savanna Beard hit that caused a shortstop error. The second Stahl score and final of game 1, coming from pinch hitter
Jade Richards' line drive to second base caused an error in the bottom of the 5th to give Bryan the 5-0 win.
Game Two: In game two it would be Bryan to strike first, in the bottom of the first, off an
Aubree Presley sacrifice fly to bring in
Savanna Beard. The Koalas would get their first run of the afternoon on an error from the Lions.
The score would stay tied 1-1, until the top of the 5th when Columbia's Katie Poole would bring in Aliyah Crawley to give the Koalas the 2-1 lead. Columbia would extend their lead in the 6th, from a Hope Azurdia solo home run.
The Lions would get one more chance in the bottom of the 7th. After a Lion strikeout, A Haley Stahl single would start the charge. Stahl was followed by Payton Reasons and Julianna Santillan singles to load the bases. Lily Taylor would bring in a runner, but would ground out to give Bryan it's second score and second out. With 2 outs, Savanna Beard would have the final chance for the Lady Lions. Unfortunately Beard was unable to find the gap, and would ground out to end a valiant effort from the Lions.
With the split on Monday the Lady Lions advance to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference.
Next Time Out:
The Lady Lions will be back and home Wednesday 2/28, for a doubleheader versus Lindsey Wilson University starting at 4:00 PM.
