The Bryan College Volleyball Team traveled to take on rival Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday, October 25th. The Bulldogs sat just half a game above the hometown Lions going into the contest. Head Coach Jessica Day and her team needed to secure the win to put themselves into postseason position. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs defended their homecourt and took the match, 3-1.
The first set would be controlled handily by the home team. The Lady Lions could never seem to get going, as quite a few errors would set them behind the curb. Wesleyan was able to build a 16-9 lead and it proved to be too big a big hole to dig out of for Bryan. Amya Sutton and Jia Weathersby were all over the attack for the Bulldogs. Their efforts earned a 25-13 first set win.
The Lady Lions battled valiantly in the second set. The visitors jumped out to a 9-4 lead and were able to hang on for a 25-23 second set win. Lillie Van Metre was particularly dynamic for the Lions. The third set was a dogfight with both teams holding the lead at different points. Van Metre continued to be effective on the attack. The set was close up until the end when a kill from Olivia Miller would end the set, 25-19.
The fourth set was all Tennessee Wesleyan. The Bulldogs controlled every facet of the set and closed out the rival Lions, 25-12.
