LAURINBURG, NC - The Bryan College Women's Basketball team headed on the road to Laurinburg, NC to take on the St. Andrews Knights Saturday Afternoon. The Lady Lions defeated the Knights 87-43 thanks to a historic night from
Torie Brooks. Brooks hit a school record 9 three pointers and would finish with 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The Lions continued their ways of fast starts as Seniors Allissa Mulaski and Samantha Russell led the way in the first quarter scoring. Mulaski continued her strong play finishing the night with 13 points and 4 rebounds. Russell also had an efficient shooting night dropping in 14 points on 5-8 shooting and 4-6 from three.
The 2nd quarter is where Brooks started her roll. Brooks went a perfect 4-4 from the field and 3-3 from beyond the arc in the 2nd quarter. Senior Kaitlyn Hennesse also put in a dominant performance in the 2nd quarter scoring 10 of her 12 points. Hennessee tallied another solid stat line finishing with 12 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks on the day. The Lions entered the half up 45-25.
Brooks would go on to knock down her 5th three pointer of the game in the first minute of the second half. Her 6th went down only two minutes later at the 5:06 mark in the 3rd. Starting the 4th quarter the Lions were still rolling as Kadee Ferrell knocked down an early jumper to add to her strong night of 5 points and a game high 10 rebounds. As Brooks hit her 7th three of the game with 2:44 the Lions could sense the record was in play. Brooks knocked down two 3s in the final minute of the game to write her name in the Bryan record books. The Lions would seal the 87-43 victory.
With the win the Lady Lions are now 13-5 overall and 11-1 in the AAC. The Knights fall to 3-11 overall and 2-11 in conference.
Looking Forward: The Lady Lions go on the road Tuesday 1/16 at 5:30 PM to take on the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs in Athens, TN.
