Lady Lions Cruise to Third Straight Conference Win

DAYTON, TN- The Bryan College Women's Basketball team was back home and faced off against the Montreat College Cavaliers on Wednesday night inside Summers Gymnasium. The Lady Lions cruised to a big conference win 89-50 on the back of their 15 made threes. 

The Lady Lions came out hot again in the first quarter taking an early 32-8 lead while shooting 60% from the field and 7-9 from three. The Lady Lions starters kept the pedal down in the 2nd quarter going into halftime up 52-21. 

Bryan was led by Senior Samantha Russell's 13 first half points. For the night Russell had a team high 20 points, while also grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Alyssa Mulaski also contributed with an incredibly efficient 10 points on 75% shooting and going 2-2 from the free throw line. Torrie Brooks also continued her big play filling the stat line with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. 

Even with the big offensive output from Bryan, their work was done on the defensive end. The Lady Lions defense was anchored by Senior Kaitlyn Hennessee, who had a team high 6 steals and 3 blocks. Hennessee would finish with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. 

As the game progressed to the 5:24 mark in the 3rd, Coach Gabe Johnson took advantage of the 61-30 lead and let his key reserves control the game. And take advantage they did. Navaeh Majors filled the stat line with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists (0 turnovers). Paige Moody continued shooting the ball well going 3-5 from the arc, and Freshman Jayden Lee contributed 15 big minutes snagging 5 rebounds and 3 points. 

Bryan would continue to roll in the 2nd half and take the game 89-50. With the win Bryan moves to 7-4 overall and 7-1 in the AAC. Montreat falls to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the AAC. 

Looking Forward: The Lady Lions are back on the road to play Milligan University on 12/9 at 12:00 PM.
