Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hennessee’s 30 Carries Lions to Win Over Milligan

DAYTON, TN - The Bryan College Women's Basketball team headed to Elizabethton, TN to play the Milligan University Buffalos on Saturday. The Lady Lions grabbed another conference win against the Buffs 81-72, highlighted by Senior Kaitlynn Hennessee's 30 point night.

The Lady Lions continued their run of strong 1st quarters. Torie Brooks hit the first bucket of the game on a driving layup, followed by back-to-back buckets from Samanatha Russell to give Bryan a quick 7-4 lead. After a small run from the Buffs to take back the lead 11-7, Hennessee found her stride closing out the 1st quarter on a solo 8 point run to give Bryan the 15-11 lead headed into the 2nd.

The 2nd quarter was another back and forth, but Bryan was able to hold a 32-28 half time lead thanks to a big 2nd quarter from Kadee Ferrell and Allissa Mulaski. The Lions struck fast coming out of halftime with a fastbreak three from Torie Brooks, off a Kaitlynn Hennessee steal and assist. Brooks would go on to have 9 points in the quarter to give Bryan five point advantage headed into the 4th up 53-48.

Despite the Buffalo's persistence, Hennessee and Russell played like the All-Conference players they are and closed out the fourth quarter for the Lions combining for 17 points in the final quarter to give the Lions a 81-72 win and handing Milligan their first conference loss.

Hennessee would finish with 30 points on 11-17 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Russell would have a game high 9 rebounds, along with 17 points on 6-13 shooting. A key stat for the night, the Lions had 15 second chance points off their 12 offensive rebounds.

With the win Bryan moves to 8-4 overall and 8-1 in the AAC. Milligan falls to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the AAC.

Looking Forward: The Lady Lions are home Tuesday Night, December 12, to play The University of the Cumberlands at 5:30 PM.
