Lady Lions Keep On Roaring Def. #11 University of the Cumberlands

DAYTON, TN- The Bryan College Women's Basketball team squared off against the nationally ranked University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday night. The Patriots squad entered on a two game losing streak and Bryan looked to extend it to three.

Both teams started out hot, trading buckets back and forth throughout the first quarter. Senior Samantha Russell was particularly determined offensively, notching 8 first quarter points with two triples. The Lady Lions entered the second quarter up 25-18.

In the second quarter, Bryan found the momentum going on a 13-0 run (5:10). It seems like the Lady Lions would cruise to its sixth straight victory at home but the Patriots would come storming back. Starting with a Victoria Frendricks layup (3:46), Cumberlands found themselves in a 12-0 run. The Lady Lions managed to stop the bleeding, entering the half up 45-42.

Each team settled in their groove trading buckets back and forth in the third. It was a dogfight on the glass with the Patriots bigs finding themselves in foul trouble. The Lady Lions never wavered in the face of adversity however, Sophomore Kadee Ferrell fought hard against the much taller Cumberlands squad all night. Ferrell's efforts rewarded her with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Senior Kaitlynn Hennessee scored Bryan's first 4 in the fourth on back-to-back tough finishes inside (8:32). Hennessee finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Bryan extended its fourth quarter lead to 14 midway through. Cumberlands threw everything at head coach Gabe Johnson's squad but to no avail.
