KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Bryan College baseball picked up a big 10-3 win over Spartanburg Methodist on Thursday afternoon at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tennessee, improving the Lions to 26-23 on the season.
Tyler Gray was dominant from start to finish, throwing a complete game nine innings to earn his third win of the year. Gray allowed just eight hits, walked one and struck out four. All three Pioneer runs came via Bryan errors, meaning Gray was utterly untouchable when it came to earned runs on the day. It was the kind of outing that defines a staff ace, and Gray delivered it in commanding fashion.
The Pioneers struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Lane Schrader, with an additional run scoring on a throwing error. Bryan answered in the third when
Will Curcio laced a two-run double to left field, scoring
Cyrus Campos and
Caleb Ramsey to put the Lions up 2-1. Spartanburg responded with two more unearned runs in the bottom of the third, using a pair of Bryan errors to regain the lead at 3-2.
Bryan tied it in the fourth when
Jack Reynolds launched a solo home run to right center. That set the stage for a decisive sixth inning, when Bryan sent ten batters to the plate and pushed across four runs.
Brodie Genter delivered a two-run single to center, and
Denajh Williams followed with another two-run single to left, making it 7-3.
The Lions added three more in the seventh on a two-run double from Genter and an RBI single by Campos to put the game away at 10-3.
Genter was the offensive standout, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Reynolds finished 2-for-5 with a home run and two stolen bases. Williams went 2-for-5 with two RBI, and Campos reached base three times and drove in a run.
Morgan Halliday also had a two-hit day at the plate.
The Lions will play the winner of Milligan and Spartanburg tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm.
