Lady Lions Softball Drops Doubleheader to Freed Hardeman (RV)

HENDERSON, Tenn. — The Bryan College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday, falling 10-4 and 4-0. The losses dropped Bryan to 22-20 on the season, while Freed-Hardeman improved to 17-16 — a team receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Top 25 poll .

Game 1: Freed-Hardeman 10, Bryan 4
The opener was a slugfest that got away from Bryan early. Freed-Hardeman's offense erupted for three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth, building a lead the Lions of Bryan could never overcome.

Freed-Hardeman first baseman Myleah Hardy was the offensive star of the afternoon, finishing the game 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and crossed the plate once. Outfielder Chloe Carter went 3-for-4 with three RBI, doing much of her damage with a pair of clutch singles. Designated player Alivia Eggleston added a 4-for-4 performance with three RBI.

Bryan's bright spot came from Lily Taylor, who launched two home runs — one to center field in the second inning and another to right center in the fifth — accounting for two of the team's four RBI. Ava Saul also went deep, and the Bryan offense showed flashes of life, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Freed-Hardeman's relentless attack.

Bryan starter KP Smith took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings. Reliever Britni Newbille yielded three more runs before the frame closed. Reagan Locke earned the win for Freed-Hardeman, going the full seven innings and allowing just four earned runs while striking out three.

Game 2: Freed-Hardeman 4, Bryan 0
The nightcap was a tighter contest, but Freed-Hardeman's Katy Gartrell simply dominated. The right-hander threw a complete-game gem, scattering three hits over seven innings while walking four and striking out four. Bryan managed just three hits against Gartrell on the evening.

Hardy again delivered for Freed-Hardeman, going 2-for-3 with two home runs — one solo shot in the first inning and a two-run blast in the third — driving in all three of her team's earned runs. Eggleston went 3-for-3 to supplement the effort with an additional RBI.

Bryan's Maddie Lee pitched well in a losing effort, tossing all six innings faced and surrendering just four runs on seven hits. But Bryan's bats, limited to three hits against Gartrell, could not get anything going. The closest Bryan came to a threat was a two-out single from shortstop Lakyn Lockhart, but the team left ten runners stranded across the game.

The Lady Lions will look to regroup as they will take on Johnson University in a double header on Monday.
