Lady Lions Drop Doubleheader to Georgia Gwinnett in Tough Tuesday at Home

DAYTON, TN — The Bryan College Lady Lions softball team suffered a difficult doubleheader loss Tuesday afternoon, falling to Georgia Gwinnett 4–5 and 0–10 in a pair of contests at home.

Game One: Bryan Falls 4–5 in Seven Innings

The Lions showed resilience in the opener, battling back from an early deficit to make it a contest. Bryan surrendered a four-run third inning to fall behind early, but manufactured runs in the middle innings to pull within one. Ava Saul was a bright spot offensively, finishing with two hits and two RBI, including a key two-run double. Maddie Lee picked up her 15th start of the season and took the loss on the mound, tossing all seven innings and allowing five earned runs on ten hits while issuing four walks.

Bryan's defense was tested throughout, with three errors contributing to unearned run opportunities for the visitors. The Lions left eight runners on base, struggling to capitalize in key moments. A sixth-inning rally that plated three Georgia Gwinnett runs ultimately proved the difference. With the loss, Bryan falls to 16–13 on the season.

Game Two: Gwinnett Rolls in Run-Rule Victory, 10–0

The Lions were unable to find their footing in the nightcap, as Georgia Gwinnett erupted for six first-inning runs and never looked back, completing the run-rule victory in five innings. Bryan's Ava Saul entered in relief of starter KP Smith and pitched 4.2 innings, limiting further damage, but the early hole proved insurmountable. Smith took the loss to fall to 0–1. Georgia Gwinnett starter Tatum Helsom cruised to the complete-game shutout, scattering five hits and striking out four.

Offensively, Bryan managed five hits in the contest. Ava Saul went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, and Lakyn Lockhart and Brooklyn Malone each contributed base hits. However, the Lions were unable to push a runner across the plate, leaving six on base.

Looking Ahead

The twin defeats drop Bryan to 16–14 on the year. The Lions will look to regroup and bounce back in their next series at Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday.
