Lady Lions Fall in Doubleheader, Drops Extra-Inning Heartbreaker

MILLIGAN, Tenn. - Bryan College softball dropped both ends of a Friday doubleheader to Milligan, losing the opener 7-4 before falling 6-5 in ten innings in a gut-wrenching nightcap.

In Game 1, Bryan got on the board first when Maddie Lee singled home Juliana Santillanes in the first inning. But Milligan answered with seven unanswered runs across the second and third innings and never looked back. Alana Parsons drove in three runs and Lily Frazier added three more RBIs to power the Buffs. Bryan made it interesting in the sixth, cutting the deficit to 7-4 on a Savanna Schaffer RBI single and an unearned run, but Milligan starter Katelin Secrist closed out a complete-game win. Ava Saul was strong in relief for the Lions, allowing no runs over 3.1 innings after starter Maddie Lee was pulled.

Game 2 was a back-and-forth battle that went the distance. Bryan came out swinging, putting up three runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Ava Saul, Maddie Lee, and Savanna Schaffer. The Lions led 4-2 heading into the fifth and still held a 5-4 edge going to the bottom of the tenth. But Milligan tied it on an Alana Parsons RBI double, then Ashley Worley singled to left to end it and hand Bryan the heartbreaking loss. KP Smith pitched her heart out, going 9.2 innings, but took the loss. Bryan finished with 14 hits on the night but couldn't hold the lead when it mattered most.

Bryan drops to 14-12 on the season and 4-4 in conference play. They will look to regroup as they continue with conference play next Friday.
