DAYTON, Tenn. – The Bryan College women's basketball team continued their impressive conference run with a commanding 73-53 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday night at Summers Gymnasium.
The Lions established control early and never looked back, building a 28-11 lead after the first quarter and cruising to their 12th conference win of the season. Bryan's balanced offensive attack and stifling defense proved too much for the visiting Bulldogs.
Bryan came out firing in the opening period, shooting 57.1% from the field while holding Tennessee Wesleyan to just 33.3%. The Lions' defensive pressure forced nine turnovers in the quarter, converting those mistakes into early offense that built the 17-point advantage.
Three Lions reached double figures in scoring.
Alyssa Petty led the way with 13 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting performance, adding four rebounds and two assists.
Kadee Ferrell contributed 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a strong all-around effort, while
Molly Brown added 11 points, including three three-pointers.
Kaylynn Walls contributed eight points and eight rebounds while dishing out three assists and recording a game-high six steals. Her defensive intensity helped Bryan force 28 turnovers, which the Lions converted into 34 points.
Bryan's interior presence was a major factor, outscoring the Bulldogs 42-24 in the paint. The Lions also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 19 points off offensive rebounds compared to just one for Tennessee Wesleyan.
The home team held a 45-34 advantage on the boards, with Ferrell's nine rebounds leading the way. "Really proud of our team", said Head Coach
Matt Bollant. "I thought we played a great first quarter, and that was the difference in the game," he continued.
While Bryan's starters carried much of the offensive load, the team's depth was evident throughout the contest. The Lions built their largest lead of 26 points late in the fourth quarter and maintained control despite rotating players freely in the final minutes.
The Lady Lions will look to continue their strong play as they push toward the postseason. They will be on the road on Friday to take on Spartanburg Methodist at 2:00 pm.
