PIKEVILLE, KY — Bryan College dropped a 91-66 decision to conference-leading Pikeville (#12) on Wednesday night, as the Bears remained unbeaten in the Appalachian Athletic Conference play at 10-0.
Jerry Taylor Jr. turned in another strong performance for the Lions, pouring in a game-high 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting while adding four assists and two blocks. The junior forward continued to be a bright spot for Bryan, which falls to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in conference action.
The Lions kept things competitive in the first half, trailing just 42-36 at the break thanks to solid shooting from beyond the arc. Bryan connected on 6-of-11 three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes, with
Kole Torres and
Regale Moore combining to hit all four of their attempts from deep.
Torres finished with 12 points, knocking down 4-of-5 from three-point range, while Moore contributed nine points off the bench on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance from distance.
Cal Drake added seven points and four assists in the reserve role.
However, Pikeville's size and depth proved to be the difference in the second half. The Bears (17-2) outrebounded Bryan 42-25 for the game and dominated the paint with a 52-22 advantage in scoring inside. Three Pikeville players—Keian Worrix, Zion Blevins, and Bradley Bunch—each scored in double figures.
The Lions showed resilience despite facing one of the nation's top teams. Bryan shot 45% from three-point range for the game, continuing to show improvement from the perimeter.
The Lions will look to regroup and build on the positives as they continue their conference schedule. With Taylor Jr. providing consistent production and the team's three-point shooting showing promise, Bryan remains focused on the remainder of the season. They will host Bluefield in an AAC contest on Saturday.
