Box Score 1 Kokomo, Ind. – The Lady Lions volleyball team faced a challenging start to their season on Friday, suffering two defeats at the IUK Invite in Kokomo, Indiana.
The Lions were swept by Cumberlands (8-25, 11-25, 12-25) in their opening match before falling in five sets to IU South Bend (25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 14-25, 12-15) later in the day.
Against Cumberlands, Bryan struggled offensively throughout the match, managing just 16 kills while committing 13 errors for a .035 hitting percentage. The Lions were overwhelmed by Cumberlands' balanced attack, led by Brynnley Bryant's 11 kills and Alana Shiery's 10 kills. Setter Savanah Jolly controlled the match with 40 assists, consistently finding open attackers against Bryan's defense.
Shelby Kelly led Bryan with five kills, while
Ella Wheatcroft added six, but the Lions never found their offensive rhythm. The match was played before 50 spectators and represented a difficult opening to the season.
Bryan showed more fight in their second match against IU South Bend, taking the first two sets before ultimately falling in five. Despite being outhit .127 to .069 for the match, the Lions displayed resilience early on. Kelly led the attack with 10 kills, though she struggled with 11 errors on 48 attempts.
Bella Beard contributed nine kills while
Leah Lindquist added eight.
The match shifted in the third set as IU South Bend's Jillian Bruckner took over with 20 kills on a .405 hitting percentage. Mallorie Elliott's consistent setting (22 assists) and dominant serving performance, including five aces, powered the Titans' comeback victory.

Avery Baxter provided steady defensive play throughout both matches, recording 11 total digs. The Lions will look to regroup as they continue their season, hoping to build on the competitive moments shown against IU South Bend.
The Lady Lions head back to Indiana next weekend to compete in a tri match at Oakland City with #18 IU Kokomo.
