DAYTON, Tenn. – Bryan College's women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Monday, defeating Bob Jones University 3-1 at home in a match that saw the Lions control play throughout the afternoon.
Bryan wasted no time asserting their dominance, despite a scoreless first half that saw Bob Jones University generate more offensive pressure with seven shots compared to Bryan's one.
The Lions broke through immediately after the intermission when
Carmen Verdel found the back of the net just 16 seconds into the second half at the 45:16 mark, giving Bryan a 1-0 lead. The early goal seemed to deflate the visitors and energize the home side.
Ryan Fair extended the advantage in the 62nd minute with an unassisted strike, putting Bryan up 2-0 and firmly in control of the match. The Lions added an insurance goal at the 80-minute mark when
Ruth (Fish) Cook converted a feed from Verdel to make it 3-0.
Bob Jones University managed a late consolation goal through Illa Tomko in the 89th minute, but it was far too little, too late to threaten Bryan's comfortable lead.

Katie Finch was stellar between the posts for Bryan College, making eight saves on nine shots faced during the full 90 minutes. Her counterpart, Margaret Cumming of Bob Jones University, faced just three shots on goal but allowed all three to find the net.
The match statistics told the story of Bryan's control, as the Lions held an 8-0 advantage in offsides calls, indicating their aggressive attacking approach. Bob Jones University held a slight edge in corner kicks (2-0) but couldn't capitalize on those opportunities.
With the victory, Bryan College earns their first win of the season. They look to continue working to create more opportunities to be successfull this eason. The Lady Lions will host Bluefield at home on Wednesday afternoon.
