DAYTON, Tenn. -Â The Bryan Lions Cross Country teams battled through lightning delays to post strong results this past weekend.
The men's team placed 7th overall, finishing ahead of several Division II programs, a Division I opponent, and an AAC rival. Tayven Guthrie led the way in his first 8k with a close pack behind him.
Head coach Jasper Wilson shared, "For many of the guys this was their first time racing the 8k distance, and I think they handled it well. The lightning delay threw off routines, but they stayed composed and competed. We'll take a lot of lessons from this one that will help us come conference time."
The women's team finished 8th, also topping multiple Division II schools and an AAC foe. Carissa Wilson highlighted the day with a 5th-place finish and a cross country 5k personal best of 19:18.
Coach Wilson added, "The women were quick to reset after the delay and executed their race plans really well. They moved up steadily from start to finish, and I was really encouraged by their progression. This group showed they can adapt and compete in tough situations."
He concluded, "All things considered, it was a good day with a lot of growth to come. I'm excited for what the rest of the season will hold."
The Lions return to action on October 11th at the UAH Chargers Invite in Huntsville, Alabama.
