DAYTON, TN – Bryan College women's soccer fought back from a second-half deficit to earn a hard-fought 2-2 tie against Shorter University on Tuesday evening at their home field in Dayton, Tennessee.
The Lions struck early when freshman, Cammie Ruehling found the back of the net just 6:33 into the match, assisted by Ryan Fair, giving Bryan an initial 1-0 advantage. The early goal was the result of Bryan's aggressive offensive approach, as they controlled much of the first-half action with five corner kicks compared to Shorter's zero.
Shorter University responded before the halftime whistle when Gianna Estavillo scored an unassisted goal at the 43:19 mark, leveling the match at 1-1 heading into the break.
The Hawks took their first lead of the match early in the second half, as Kaylin Stallings found herself in the right position to score at 53:07, putting Shorter ahead 2-1. However, Bryan College showed resilience in the final stages of the game.
With just over 13 minutes remaining, Madison Parker delivered the equalizer for the Lions at 74:31, assisted by Sarah Horton, securing the 2-2 draw and salvaging a point for the home team.
Bryan College dominated the statistical categories throughout the match, outshooting Shorter University 11-4 and holding a significant 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Lions also forced Shorter goalkeeper Kaylin Stallings into three saves, while Bryan's Katie Finch was not required to make any saves in goal.
Both teams received yellow cards during the contest, with Bryan's Cammie Ruehling cautioned early in the second half and Shorter's Elizabeth Morgan receiving a card in the final minutes of play.
The draw extends both teams' records as they continue their seasons.
