Bryan Baseball Edges Out Union Commonwealth to Sweep Series

The Bryan College baseball team put together an impressive weekend, sweeping Union Commonwealth in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. The Lions dominated Game 1 with a shutout, battled through a close Game 2, and completed the series sweep with a late rally in Game 3.

Game 1: Bryan 11, Union Commonwealth 0

The Lions opened the series in dominant fashion behind a complete-game shutout from Jacob Almon, who was nearly untouchable on the mound. Bryan's offense provided plenty of run support late in the game to seal the win.
Key Performances:
  • Jacob Almon (W, 1-0): 9.0 IP, 2 H, 13 K, complete-game shutout.
  • J. Sabo: 3-for-4, 3 RBIs, including a two-run single in the ninth.
  • C. Campos: 2-for-3, 3 RBIs, including a sac fly in the eighth.
  • J. Morris: 3-for-4, 1 RBI, solid defense behind the plate.
  • C. Cook & W. Curcio: Each had an RBI and a hit.

  • Early Lead: Bryan struck first in the second inning with an RBI single from W. Curcio and a base hit from J. Sabo to make it 2-0.

Game 2: Bryan 5, Union Commonwealth 4

The second game was much closer, with Bryan holding off a late push from Union Commonwealth to secure the series win.

  • Dante Morton: 2-RBI double in the fourth.
  • Chris Campos: Go-ahead RBI single in the fifth.
  • Drew Walker (W): 4.0 IP, 2 ER.
  • Peyton Johnson (S): 3.0 IP, 0 R, lockdown relief.
Game Breakdown:
  • Fast Start: Bryan built an early 4-0 lead.
  • Union Commonwealth Responds: A four-run fourth inning tied the game.
  • Lions Regain Control: Campos' RBI single in the fifth put Bryan back on top.

Game 3: Bryan 7, Union Commonwealth 6

The final game of the series was a back-and-forth battle, with Bryan rallying late and holding off a final push from Union Commonwealth.

  • W. Curcio: Go-ahead three-run double in the seventh.
  • J. Morris: 2-for-5, RBI.
  • D. Morton: Reached base twice, scored two runs, added an RBI sacrifice fly.
  • B. Liechty (W, 1-0): 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 K.
  • P. Johnson (S, 1): Closed out the ninth to secure the win.
Game Breakdown:
  • Early Setback: Union Commonwealth struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first and adding four unearned runs in the fourth to go up 5-1.
  • Lions Fight Back: Bryan cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth with RBI hits from Morris and Curcio.
  • Seventh-Inning Surge: Curcio's bases-clearing double gave Bryan the lead.
  • Closing It Out: Bryan added an insurance run in the ninth before Union Commonwealth scored one last time, but Johnson locked it down for the sweep.
With the three-game sweep, Bryan improves to 10-11 on the season and 6-5 in AAC play. The Lions will look to build on this momentum as they continue conference play at Truett McConnell 3/14 & 3/15
