Lions Dominate in Sweep Over Oakwood

The Bryan College softball team unleashed an offensive explosion on Tuesday. Defeating Oakwood University with an 11-0 victory. The Lions' bats came alive, particularly in the seventh inning surge that sealed the dominant performance. The turning point came in the seventh inning with the Lion's plated seven. 

Juliana Santillanes sparked the rally with a single that drove in two runs. Savanna Schaffer made her mark with her first career homerun, clearing the bases and bringing in two more runs for the Lions. The inning continued with Aubree Presley, Savanna Beard, and Cali Green each adding singles and driving in a run. Earlier, in the sixth inning, the Lions had already begun to pull away, scoring an additional three runs. Presley's single and Cali Green's first career long ball- a two run blast- extended the Lion lead to 4-0. 

Denver Hogrefe was unstoppable on the mound for Bryan College. In six impressive innings, Hogrefe limited Oakwood to four hits. Her strategic mix of spin and speed resulted in five strikeouts, with only two walks. In relief, freshman Britni Newbille made a strong second appearance, closing out the game with an outstanding performance. She allowed just one hit and no runs, helping to secure the shutout. 

The Lion's offense was relentless, collecting 14 hits total. Cali Green and Aubree Presley were particularly impressive, each driving in three runs. Beard and Maddie Lee also contributed multiple hits, showcasing the team's depth and offensive power. Lee had her first career triple in the game. 

Oakwood's starting pitcher surrendered 14 hits and 11 runs in her seven-inning outing, with six strikeouts and two walks. 



Game Two

Freshman Kayleigh Smith delivered a remarkable pitching performance, leading Bryan College to a convincing 7-1 victory over Oakwood Univeristy. Smith's exceptional spin and skills on the mound set the tone for the Lion's second win. Smith was phenomenal in her seven-inning outing, striking out an impressive 12 batters. She allowed just two hits and one run while issuing three walks. Her command, precision, and composure kept the Oakwood batters off-balance throughout the game. 

The Lion's offense came alive early, with Madison Carpenter making the first move in the second inning with a stand-up double. In the third, Breanna Bumgardner extended the lead with a single to left field, driving in another run. Bryan College's bats were consistently productive, collecting 12 hits total. Carpenter emerged as the offensive standout, going 2-for-4 and driving in three runs. Aubree Presley joined Carpenter in the multi-hit column, adding to the offensive firepower. 

The Lions showcased their speed and aggression on the base paths, successfully stealing six bases. Defensively, they turned a crucial double play, demonstarting their all-around capabilities. 

Oakwood's starting pitcher struggles, surrendering 12 hits and seven runs (five earned) over seven innings, with just one strikeout. 

Bryan College will return home on Friday to host Cumberland University in their next matchup, looking to continue their winning momentum.
