Lion 10-8 Association Shooting Team Transitions to Pistol Competition, Sets Sights on SASP Nationals

DAYTON, TN - The Bryan College Lion 10-8 Association Shooting Team is entering a new era of competitive shooting during the 2025–2026 academic year, officially transitioning from shotgun competition to action-style pistol shooting under the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP).

This shift marks a significant evolution for the program, aligning the team more closely with modern competitive shooting formats that emphasize speed, accuracy, movement, and decision-making under pressure. The transition also reflects the team's broader mission of blending athletic competition with professional skill development for students pursuing careers in criminal justice, law enforcement, and related fields.

From Shotgun to Action Pistol
Historically, the Lion 10-8 Association competed in scholastic shotgun sports, building a strong foundation in safety, discipline, and marksmanship. During the 2025–2026 academic year, leadership made the strategic decision to pivot toward pistol-based competition, allowing student-athletes to engage in a more dynamic, stage-based shooting environment.

SASP pistol competition introduces athletes to multiple shooting stages, movement between firing positions, timed strings, and accuracy standards that mirror real-world performance demands. The format rewards consistency, mental focus, and athletic control—qualities that define the Lion 10-8 culture.

First Official Pistol Practice
The team officially closed out the Fall 2025 semester with its first dedicated pistol practice on December 6, 2025. That session marked a milestone for the program, as student-athletes took the range for the first time under SASP-style expectations, focusing on fundamentals, safe weapon handling, and competitive mechanics.
The practice set the tone for what lies ahead: disciplined training, incremental skill development, and preparation for high-level collegiate competition.

Nationals on the Horizon
The Lion 10-8 Association will make its SASP debut on the national stage at the 2026 SASP College National Championship, scheduled for March 13–15, 2026. Competing at Nationals as the team's first official pistol match underscores the program's confidence, ambition, and commitment to growth.

While the team is early in its pistol journey, expectations are high. Between now and March, Lion 10-8 athletes will engage in structured practices focused on marksmanship, stage execution, and competitive readiness, all while maintaining the safety and professionalism that define the program.

Built for Competition and Purpose
The Lion 10-8 Association is more than a shooting team—it is a performance-driven program rooted in discipline, service, and readiness. The move to SASP pistol competition reinforces that identity, positioning Bryan College student-athletes at the intersection of athletics, precision shooting, and professional development.

As the Spring semester approaches and Nationals draw closer, the Lion 10-8 Association Shooting Team is locked in, motivated, and ready to represent Bryan College on the collegiate action-shooting stage.

10-8: In Service. Ready to Compete.
