DAYTON, Tenn. – Bryan College guard
Kole Torres has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a pair of strong performances that helped the Lions secure two victories last week.
Torres, a key contributor for Bryan College, showcased his defensive prowess in back-to-back conference road victories. The Lions improved to 5-8 overall and 4-4 in AAC play with wins over Montreat (NC) and Columbia (SC).
In Wednesday's 79-73 victory at Montreat, Torres was a defensive force while demonstrating his versatility. Playing a team-high 29 minutes, he tallied two steals while adding nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists. His nine rebounds tied for the team lead and demonstrated his ability to impact the game beyond the perimeter.
Torres followed up with another solid all-around performance in Saturday's 81-78 win at Columbia. He recorded two more steals while playing 30 minutes, helping Bryan hold off a late Columbia rally. The guard also proved efficient offensively, scoring 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, while dishing out five assists.
Over the two-game stretch, Torres combined for four steals while helping the Lions limit opponents and secure crucial conference wins. His ability to create turnovers and disrupt passing lanes has been instrumental in Bryan's defensive schemes.
Through 13 games this season, Torres has established himself as one of Bryan's most reliable two-way players. His defensive tenacity, combined with his ability to stretch the floor offensively, makes him a valuable asset as the Lions work to climb the AAC standings.
With Torres anchoring the backcourt defense, Bryan College appears poised to make a push in the second half of the season.
