Bryan College Wins Thrilling Home Opener Against Point University

DAYTON, TN. – Bryan College men's basketball secured their first home victory of the season with an 84-80 win over Point University on Saturday afternoon at Summers Gym, improving to 1-3 on the season.

The Lions came out firing in the first half, building a commanding 40-29 lead by halftime. Bryan shot an impressive 50 percent from the field in the opening frame. The Lions' offensive efficiency was complemented by solid defense that forced eight Point turnovers. Derek Curtis provided a crucial spark off the bench, contributing six points in the first half, including a late three-pointer that helped extend Bryan's advantage to double digits heading into the break.

Point University mounted a fierce comeback attempt in the second half, outscoring Bryan 51-44 over the final 20 minutes. The Skyhawks, who shot 41.5 percent in the second half and knocked down seven three-pointers, refused to go away quietly. Robert Harris was particularly dangerous for Point, pouring in 15 second-half points, including four three-pointers.

Despite the pressure, Bryan's free throw shooting proved decisive. The Lions converted an outstanding 26 of 28 from the charity stripe (92.9 percent), including a 22-for-24 performance in the second half.

Jerry Taylor Jr. paced Bryan with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while also adding five crucial free throws down the stretch. Izaiha Bredwood finished with 14 points and made all seven of his free throw attempts, providing steady scoring throughout the contest.

Haydn Moten contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, while Trey Morrow added 10 points in 19 minutes of action. The bench combined for 26 points, with Kole Torres (10 points) and Derek Curtis (10 points) each reaching double figures.

Bryan's ability to attack the basket was evident in their 32 points in the paint compared to Point's 24. The Lions' aggressive approach led to 28 free throw attempts, which they converted at a remarkable rate to secure the victory.

The home victory provides Bryan College with much-needed momentum as they enter into conference play. The Lions' ability to maintain composure under pressure and execute at the free-throw line in crucial moments bodes well for future contests. Bryan will look to build on this performance and string together more victories as the season progresses.
