DALTON, Ga. – The Bryan College men's basketball team dropped to 0-5 on the season following an 86-69 defeat at Dalton State on Thursday evening.
Dalton State (4-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, holding Bryan at arm's length throughout the contest. The Roadrunners led 38-33 at halftime before pulling away in the second half with a dominant 48-36 scoring advantage.
The Lions shot a respectable 45.6% from the field (26-of-57) but struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 2-of-14 three-point attempts (14.3%). Bryan was solid at the free-throw line, making 15-of-20 attempts (75.0%).
Junior forward
Jerry Taylor Jr. led all scorers with 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Taylor also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the young season, though he struggled from the charity stripe, making 11-of-14 free throws.
Kole Torres added 9 points while
Ty Gibbs came off the bench to contribute 9 points on efficient 4-of-6 shooting, while adding four rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Turnovers proved costly for the Lions, who gave the ball away 23 times compared to just 10 for Dalton State. The Roadrunners capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 31 points off turnovers.
The Lions will look to regroup as they head into the weekend, as they host Point University at home.
