DAYTON, TN — The Bryan College Lady Lions roared to a commanding 95-41 victory over Truett McConnell on Wednesday evening at Summers Gym, opening their conference schedule with an emphatic statement win.
Bryan (3-2, 1-0) overwhelmed the visiting Bears from start to finish, building a 30-7 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The Lions' balanced offensive attack and suffocating defense proved too much for Truett McConnell (1-3, 0-1), who committed 42 turnovers in the lopsided defeat.
Five players scored in double figures for Bryan College, led by
Ruby Cox's perfect 6-for-6 shooting performance that resulted in 14 points in just 16 minutes.
Brooklyn Stinnett added 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a blistering 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.
Molly Brown contributed 13 points and dished out an assist, while
Kadee Ferrell added 10 points and five rebounds. The Lions' bench provided a crucial spark, outscoring Truett McConnell's reserves 65-24.
"I'm really proud of our team's performance," said head coach Matt Bollant. We had an outstanding first quarter, building a 30-7 lead early on. Our unselfish and aggressive play led to 30 steals and 23 assists, which says a lot about our effort and teamwork," he continued.
Bryan's defense was relentless, forcing those 42 turnovers and converting them into 49 points. The Lions recorded 30 steals, with Reece Roberts leading the way with four thefts.
Sophie McIntruff added six steals while dishing out five assists in an all-around performance.
The Lions controlled the paint, outscoring the Bears 50-16 in that area, and dominated the fast break with a 20-2 advantage in transition points.
With the conference-opening victory, Bryan College will look to build momentum as they continue their season. The Lions' depth and balanced scoring attack, combined with their aggressive defense, make them a formidable opponent moving forward.
